The Criminal Investigations Division of the Town of Dewitt Police Department consists of four Investigators and a Sergeant, who is the supervisor of the unit. This unit is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations on all major crimes occurring in the jurisdiction of the township, including but not limited to, burglary, larceny, robbery, forgery, assault, arson, homicide and other crimes involving extensive follow-up. Investigators also analyze crime patterns to formulate a plan of action to combat recurring crime in the Town.
Investigators cross train in many different areas of crime and are members of organizations such as the Upstate New York Electronic Crimes Coalition, National White Collar Crime Center and the Mid Atlantic Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network. Investigators also continuously work closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to bring criminal investigations to a successful conclusion.
